ROKITMUL_A BRIEF HISTORY

History changed on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I, the world's first artificial satellite. The success of this and future missions would never have happened, if it were not  for the sacrifice of a long suffering beast of burden.

Fearing American intelligence spies, the Soviets isolated their rocket booster program deep in the Siberian mountain ranges. Although protected, the transport of the rockets from rail cars to and from the compound, through mountainous terrain, proved to be a troublesome.  Long used by the locals, mules had proven a reliable form of transport. Strong, stubborn and loyal, these animals became the backbone of the

fledgling space program. Each rocket booster

would be hauled 23 miles by a team of

10 - 12 mules, nicknamed Мулы Ракеты

(loosely translated the definition means,

Mule by Rocket or Rocket Mule).

Today, the name lives on in the spirit of design.

Established in 2003, Rokitmul is a design studio

with the sole mission to improve the visual landscape,

one image at a time.
